Curaçao Gambling Hack Triggers Resignation Calls

A data breach at the Curaçao Gaming Authority (CGA) has exposed sensitive licensing information, raising political demands for accountability and intensifying scrutiny of the island’s online gambling regulator.

The CGA has confirmed that an unauthorised user accessed its licensing portal between December 2025 and September 2026. The official statement says the full extent of the information obtained remains unclear.

In response to the breach, the CGA announced that its online gaming portal would not return to service, and that the regulator would transition to a new platform. Existing licences remain valid, but licensing and compliance activities will rely on interim arrangements, while the digital seal used to verify licensed domains will be replaced.

The breach also triggered a political backlash, with Curaçao’s opposition party MAN calling for the resignation of the CGA director and arguing that the incident had damaged the island’s international reputation.

The leaked files have also cast doubt on the ownership and licensing procedures of the offshore casinos. Some of the implications of this case include further investigations and lawsuits, although the disclosures themselves do not establish wrongdoing.

The incident calls into question Curaçao’s recently reformed licensing regime, adding pressure on the regulator to prove it can safeguard confidential data and retain trust in its oversight of the online gambling industry.
